# BCrypt

Lustra includes a converter for `Crypto::Bcrypt::Password`. Store the encrypted password in a text column and expose a writer that hashes plain text before assignment.

```crystal
class User
  include Lustra::Model
  primary_key "id", :uuid
  column encrypted_password : Crypto::Bcrypt::Password
  def password=(value : String)
    self.encrypted_password = Crypto::Bcrypt::Password.create(value)
  end
end
```

Migration:

```crystal
create_table(:users, id: :uuid) do |t|
  t.column :encrypted_password, :string, null: false
end
```

Create or update a password by assigning a freshly generated bcrypt password.

```crystal
user = User.create!({encrypted_password: Crypto::Bcrypt::Password.create("secret")})
user.encrypted_password.verify("secret")
# => true
user.encrypted_password.verify("wrong")
# => false
```

With the custom writer:

```crystal
user = User.new
user.password = "secret"
user.save!
```

Never store the plain text password in a model column.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://crystal-garage.gitbook.io/lustra-docs/additional-and-advanced-features/bcrypt.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
